How We Made Our Picks
Every year our team of experts tests and reviews all the newest running shoes in order to discover the latest and greatest options available. From neutral running shoes to stability shoes, road racing to trail running shoes, we have tested them all so you don't have to. After putting in the miles, we huddle together and curate our "best of" lists with the hopes of getting you into the perfect pair of shoes for your next run.
Choosing a Running Shoe
With so many options available, finding the right pair of shoes may feel like a daunting task. To make things easier, think of shopping for new running shoes in the same way you would shop for tools at a hardware store. It's not a matter of what tool looks the coolest or how much it is, right? The goal is to find the tool that meets the specific needs of the project you're working on. The same philosophy should apply to running shoes! To choose the right running shoe, it's important to know what you'll be using them for. How often do you run? Where do you run? If your favorite route takes you on a lot of trails or you simply prefer trail running, then consider trail shoes. If you're training for a race and looking for the latest and greatest shoe tech, then consider a carbon-plated racing shoe. Are you open to buying multiple pairs? The answers to these questions will help narrow your search and lead you to your new favorite running tool.
Choosing the Right Size
Once you identify the right shoe for you, it's also vital that you choose the correct size. Ensuring a comfortable fit is a huge factor when it comes to enjoying running and staying injury free. Whether you're shopping in our retail store or on our website, take the time to make sure you're getting the right fit, as every shoe fits differently. And if you're wondering how you can get a proper fit while shopping online, we've got you covered. Head on over to our fit guide on how to choose the right size.

ASICS Novablast 4
At the end of the day, the best shoe for any individual person is going to vary. No single brand, model, or style will work for everyone. However, there is one shoe that we'd venture to guess would perform exceptionally well for almost anyone looking for a running, walking, or gym shoe: the ASICS Novablast 4.
The Novablast is a do-it-all neutral running shoe that has quickly become one of our best-selling models and one of the most popular shoes in the running world with no signs of slowing down. Ever since its introduction to the running world a few years back, it's been known as a go-to daily trainer that has the cushioning and responsiveness to deliver a high-performing ride no matter the type of run you go on. And the Novablast 4 not only maintains that legacy, but builds upon it.
The new Novablast is as bouncy and fun as ever. From enjoyable walks around the neighborhood with canine companions to mile repeats on the track and long, easy runs on the weekends, the Novablast 4 performs magnificently in almost any circ*mstance. Combine that level of performance with the fantastic $140 price point, and it is no wonder why we consider the Novablast 4 to be the best of the best.

Best All-Around Running Shoe
In this category, we're zeroing in on shoes that we consider to be our everyday workhorse—the ones that we log most of our daily mileage in. Whether you feel like a quick 30-minute jog around town or you're training for a race and need to get in 20 miles, these shoes will help you get the job done in comfort.

HOKA Clifton 9
For reliable everyday comfort, the HOKA Clifton has been a model of consistency for years, and the ninth version carries on that legacy while adding an additional 3 mm of stack height. The HOKA Clifton 9 is notable for its fantastic weight-to-cushion ratio and its early-stage meta-rocker design, allowing for a smooth heel-to-toe transition as you rack up the miles. We found the Clifton 9 versatile enough to walk in or take to the gym, but where these shoes truly shine is those daily easy miles. Since most of our runs fall into the easy category, having a go-to shoe like the Clifton 9 is a necessity, and at Running Warehouse, they're in heavy rotation.

With a recent focus on their running shoes' underfoot experience, On came out swinging with the Cloudsurfer, and the results are in—this shoe is a bonafide hit! Our staff loved the performance of this shoe, from daily runs to speed workouts and everything in between, the On Cloudsurfer delivered in a big way, and it's a shoe we've continued to lace up on the regular thanks to its balance of comfort and responsiveness.
Highlighted by its innovative CloudTech phase design in the midsole, the cushioning consistently delivers a smooth and efficient ride no matter the speed or distance you take it on.

Best Max Cushion Running Shoe
Max cushioned shoes are ideal for runners and walkers who are willing to deal with a little bit of extra weight in order to get the most cushioned experience as they log their daily miles or long runs.

New Balance Fresh Foam X More v4
The cushioned feel of the New Balance More v4 certainly lives up to its name. In this case, the more cushioning, the better. This shoe may feel a bit heavy at first, but it isn't as noticeable once you get going in them. Our staff could not get enough of the Fresh Foam midsole. Every stride felt protective yet incredibly soft. We rate this shoe as the perfect choice for easy days and recovery miles and great for avid walkers who want an ultra-cushioned underfoot feel. Expect your legs to feel better after your run than before it. Seriously.

Honorable Mention: Nike Invincible Run 3
It's hard to go wrong with ZoomX foam, and we think Nike really hit it out of the park when they introduced the first Invincible with its full-length slab of ZoomX foam. Updated with a new upper design and a wider platform for added stability, the third version of this incredibly stylish shoe is its best to date.
For easy runs and recovery miles, it is very tough to beat the luxurious experience offered by the ZoomX Invincible 3. Our staff loves how soft the ZoomX foam feels underfoot without feeling mushy or dead. While this shoe is not designed for uptempo training or race day, we still appreciated how the rockered geometry worked seamlessly with the responsive ZoomX foam to keep our feet moving efficiently. Although this shoe is heavier than the average daily trainer, you surprisingly don't feel it weighing you down on the run. Our only con here is the price; however, if you're as big of a fan of ZoomX as we are, the amazing ride will be worth the cost.

Best Performance Running Shoe
For speed and tempo workouts, you need a lightweight shoe to help you reach those breakneck speeds while still providing enough support and protection to prevent injuries. Here are our picks that do precisely that.
---
Saucony Endorphin Speed 3
Coming in hot in this category is a shoe that will not only satisfy your need for speed but will do so in style. Enter the Saucony Endorphin Speed 3. The Endorphin Speed has been a staff favorite since its first introduction a few years ago, and our love has grown with each iteration. Highlighting this version is an added stack of one of our favorite midsole foams, PWRRUN PB, and a redesigned nylon plate that utilizes a winged geometry to improve stability. The PWRRUN PB foam midsole is as resilient as ever, and it delivered the energetic and efficient ride we needed during hard efforts. And the added stability provided by the winged geometry and FORMFIT upper makes this shoe versatile enough to handle daily miles as well. But make no mistake—the Endorphin Speed is an uptempo shoe, and one we keep finding ourselves reaching for on those speed days. Chef's kiss.

Honorable Mention: New Balance FuelCell Rebel v3
Another shoe that deserves a mention in this category is the New Balance FuelCell Rebel v3. Thanks to the massive success of the previous model, this latest iteration was highly anticipated, and here at Running Warehouse, we were not disappointed! Once again, the soft and bouncy FuelCell midsole foam was the star of the show and continued to provide us with an energetic and snappy ride no matter the distance. Like the Saucony Endorphin Speed 3, the FuelCell Rebel is an uptempo shoe that is stable and comfortable enough to handle daily miles, so feel free to lace these up on most days. We also have to highlight the fantastic price point. For everything you get with this shoe, $130 is a steal, and you'd be hard-pressed to find another shoe at that price level that performs as well as the Rebel v3.

---
ASICS Gel Nimbus 26
The ASICS Gel Nimbus has embodied premium everyday comfort for years, and we were pleased to see that trend continue in the revamped 26th iteration. The full-length FLYTEFOAM BLAST PLUS ECO foam in the midsole continues to make the Nimbus more versatile and more sustainable than ever, and our staff found that it performed well in a wide range of workouts. Long, easy efforts in the Nimbus 26 feel like being on cruise control; just let these shoes do the work while you enjoy the views.

Honorable Mention: New Balance Fresh Foam X 1080 v13
The New Balance Fresh Foam X 1080 is another fantastic everyday training shoe that offers plush comfort at any distance. The soft Fresh Foam X midsole compound made easy miles feel truly easy and provided excellent protection for our joints. In addition to the comfort provided by the plush foam, the 1080 has a touch of bounce that keeps you moving forward smoothly as the miles pile up. And expect these shoes to hold up well over time thanks to the durable outsole rubber. We hardly noticed any wear after around 100 miles in these shoes, which is always a plus. Overall, the New Balance Fresh Foam X 1080 v13 is an excellent option for those looking for a premium everyday trainer.

Saucony Axon 3
If you're looking for a no-frills everyday running shoe that delivers a fun and comfortable ride, the Saucony Axon 3 is ready to answer the call. This shoe is built to handle daily miles, but it's also capable of picking up the pace thanks to the SPEEDROLL geometry that keeps the legs moving efficiently. While not as soft as one might think given the high stack of PWRRUN foam in the midsole, the Axon 3 is still plenty comfortable for your easy runs under 10 miles.

Best Stability Running Shoe
As the market starts to trend further toward neutral shoes that offer inherent stability for overpronators, some staples will continue to live long and prosper. Here are our top picks.
---
ASICS Gel Kayano 30
As one of the most iconic running shoes on the market, the latest version of the ASICS Gel Kayano claims our top spot in the stability shoe ranking. A daily training running shoe in the maximum stability category, version 30 of the Kayano has seen a major update that is sure to please the Kayano die-hards out there, and primed to gain more followers. This shoe is equipped with FLYTEFOAM BLAST PLUS ECO foam in the midsole, giving the Kayano more bounce and cushioning than we've seen in the past. Another highlight of this shoe is the 4D Guidance system that provides seamless support that both overpronators and neutral runners can enjoy. Not only does this model run smoother than any other Kayano we've tried, but it also provides more protection and stability, which is always a welcome upgrade.

Honorable Mention: HOKA Arahi 6
The HOKA Arahi 6 is another fantastic stability option. This shoe's standout feature is the innovative J-shaped stability platform that cradles the foot and acts as a bumper to guide it without being intrusive. While we would not characterize this shoe as energetic or peppy, we were more than happy to enjoy the smooth, protective ride offered by the Arahi for miles on end. The Arahi 6 is also pretty lightweight for a stability shoe, and at $140, it delivers fantastic value.

Best Premium Running Shoes For Daily Training
Due to the performance benefits that many runners experience in super shoes, there is a desire to chase that feeling every day, not just race day. However, most super shoes do not have the durability or plush comfort to handle a demanding training cycle. Thankfully, several brands have filled the gap by delivering shoes that possess many of the qualities that runners love in a super shoe, but with the durability and comfort needed to rack up the miles.
---
ASICS Superblast
High-performing versatility is one of the best qualities a running shoe can possess, and from our perspective, no shoe embodies that more than the ASICS Superblast. Whether you're looking for a max-cushioned cruiser, a lightweight uptempo shoe for fast runs, or a comfortable long run option, the Superblast performs as well as any of the top shoes in those respective categories. "How?" you might ask. The answer lies in the materials and construction of this shoe. The stacked midsole features a huge top layer of FF Blast Turbo, the same responsive foam found in the ASICS METASPEED series, a blazing fast racing shoe, along with a thin layer of FF Blast+, which is a bit firmer and acts as a stabilizer to the FF Blast Turbo on top of providing extra cushioning. Combine that foam with a lightweight upper and durable AHARPLUS rubber outsole, and you've got an all-around beast of a shoe that can do whatever you need.

Moreover, the engineered mesh upper has the perfect amount of accommodation to offer longer-lasting comfort. All in all, the SC Trainer features premium materials from top to bottom that translate into premium performance on the road, making this shoe perfect for the dedicated runner who wants the same technologies in their training-day shoe as the one they lace up on race day.

Honorable Mention: ASICS METASPEED Edge+ and Sky+
ASICS has taken a unique approach to their super shoe offerings by dropping two elite marathon racers with the same technologies, but with slightly different geometries. The Sky+ caters to stride-style runners who can benefit from a carbon plate positioned closer to their foot to maximize foam compression and energy return. Alternatively, the Edge+ works well for cadence-style runners who benefit from a lower plate position that helps with stabilization and a more efficient toe-off. Both shoes are equipped with exceptionally resilient FLYTEFOAM Turbo foam that unlocks a truly magical on-foot experience. Furthermore, the high stack of FLYTEFOAM Turbo offers optimal protection while still being incredibly lightweight—a combination that is like music to a marathoner's ears. The tooling on these shoes has been dialed in, and we anticipate seeing the METASPEED line on our best-of lists for years to come.

This shoe is not only incredibly lightweight, but it boasts a flexible rock plate that sits below the midsole, offering protection without sacrificing its nimbleness. That being said, long miles on hard-packed trails may end up feeling a bit harsh, so we recommend taking adventures on varied terrain.

Best Running Shoe for Walking
You might be surprised to hear that just because a running shoe is great for running, that does not necessarily mean it's great for walking. Wear the Nike Vaporfly at a marathon, and you're looking at a personal best. Wear the Nike Vaporfly while walking your dog, and you're looking at a rolled ankle. The shoes in this category are built for running but will be awesome for everyday errands and morning coffee walks with friends.

The amount you spend on running shoes is dependent upon a lot of factors, such as your budget, how often you run, and whether you have injury concerns. The shoes that made this year's list range anywhere from $100 to $275.

If you're the type of runner who runs most days of the week, has multiple races on the calendar, or loves to mix it up on the trails, then it sounds like a running rotation is right for you! However, if you would rather have one shoe that can handle all of your training and racing needs, consider a do-it-all shoe such as the ASICS Superblast, ASICS Novablast, or HOKA Clifton.
