At recent conference in AC, I spoke on mall redevelopment which will only become a bigger topic as retail changes and towns are hit with 4th round numbers. If done properly, it can be a home run.

Great time last night supporting my friend Erick Paley and his wife Deirdre as they officially launched Sangri. Navigating the ABC is difficult, but Holly Burke Esq. did quite the job to get them over the finish line!

Like any industry, the cannabis industry has its share of its people trying to profit at the expense of their clients. However, recently I am seeing a strong uptick in applicants submitting for conditional licenses with presumably high-priced "consultants" who prepared glossy fancy business plans for a location that does not permit cannabis. It is one thing to do some preliminary planning to present to a municipality who may be on the fence, but I feel for applicants who spend large $$s on "consultants" for a project with no chance of happening.Have a spot that might be prime for a cannabis location but it is not permitted in that location? Hire a reputable attorney, realtor or consultant with a track record of results to do some preliminary discussions with the decision makers for that municipality. Bottom line: If you are unsure about the viability of your project, reach out and talk to someone in the municipality before making a sizeable investment you likely never will see a return on. #CannabisLaw

Now that the results are official, I would like to congratulate Steve and Carol Ann on a well earned victory. It has been a pleasure to work with Steve with these last 18 months as the Borough Attorney and I look forward to continuing to help move Oakland forward.

Politics aside, an interesting issue to consider. Often time liquor license applicants are held up in New Jersey for convictions for things such as DUIs that are long in their past. Rooted in the goal of weeding out organized crime, New Jersey's liquor license laws are very unforgiving.

What goes better with summer than sangria? Now, thanks to my client Sangri, the canned sangria market is moving to the next level. Based on a tried and trusted family recipe I see nothing but success in the future. I've done a taste test, and it blows the competition away. With an official launch next week, look for them in stores and bars near you soon!Anyone who knows the ABC process knows its not easy, which is why I would also like to thank my incredible colleague Holly Burke Esq. for her work on this project. Thinking of starting a liquor company or having an ABC issue? Let's talk.

Last Thursday, myself and our team secured a Resolution of Support for Sweetspot Farms to operate a Class V adult-use retail dispensary in River Edge, a one cap town. Our top flight presentation from professionals and our experienced operator was able to secure this support against strong competition. We look forward to obtaining Planning Board approval and hope to be operational by end of year.

In New Jersey, it is only a matter of time before magic mushrooms are available for medicinal use with recreational likely to follow. Being ahead of that trend and preparing now it is never too early to have a discussion. The biggest winners in cannabis legalization? Those who planned years in advance for its arrival.
